D-link-launches-3g-wireless-routers

D-Link has launched three 3G wireless routers in India, which can provide downlink speeds up to 7.2 Mbps. The Le Petit Mini USB Router DWR-510 (pictured here) can work as a conventional USB modem when connected to a USB port or transform into a Mi-Fi router with the flick of a button. It is priced at Rs 7,299. The DWR-131, meanwhile, offers the functionality to either connect a USB modem or an ethernet cable for Internet access and creates a Wi-Fi hotspot for users. Priced at Rs 4,299, it has a 1790 mAh Li-ion battery and is compatible with both EVDO and HSPA+ networks (backward compatible). And finally, the DIR-456U, which is a pocket sized router with a rechargeable battery. Users can insert a data-enabled SIM card and create a Wi-Fi hotspot. The DIR-456U carries a price tag of Rs 6,899. Mi-Fi routers are becoming quite popular in India with brands like Micromax, Olive and now D-Link entering into the space. Even carriers like Tata Indicom and Vodafone are now offering their own Mi-Fi routers. While these devices are certainly priced a bit steep at the moment, we believe that prices will come down by the end of the year as competition between both the hardware vendors and carriers increases.
